It is undeniable that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are two of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the league. The Brady-Manning era in the NFL is a time when their rivalry on the field would turn heads in the NFL world, despite their friendship outside of the field. While Brady spent 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and 3 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manning spent 18 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and 4 with the Denver Broncos. Apart from this, Peyton Manning has won two Super Bowl rings, while Tom Brady has won seven, establishing himself as the GOAT of the game.

The achievements of both the QBs speak for themselves. But according to NBA legend Charles Barkley, this Oscar-winning actor has a higher rating than both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

It’s not Brady or Manning or even Dr. Faucci. In a recent episode of the podcast, American Sportscaster Ernie Johnson was talking about how he had gone to watch the new movie by Ben Affleck called ‘Air’ in the theatres. He went for the movie because Affleck was going to be a part of the podcast with them. To this, Barkley said that the movie star is the biggest star to join them on the show.

He said, “This is probably our biggest star. I mean Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Sally Field, Dr. Faucci. But this is probably our biggest star. I will admit it. It’s just a fact. This is actually like, a movie star.” It seems like Barkley considers the presence of Ben Affleck ahead of the times NFL legends Brady and Manning graced the show.

But with all of them pursuing different professions in life, is it justified to compare and rate them? While Affleck is big in the movie industry, both Brady and Manning have made their name in the NFL. It is safe to say all of them are huge stars in their own right, but their positioning on a podium would be completely subjective, depending on whether you’re a bigger fan of movies or football. For hardcore football fans, the Brady-Manning rivalry will rank as top-tier entertainment more than any Affleck movie. 

The Brady-Manning era of the NFL

The rivalry between the two QBs is one that echoes in the NFL even today. The duo has clashed with each other over 16 times during their stint in the NFL. But one of the most memorable clashes will have to be the one between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.

This was also Manning’s last playoff in the NFL before he announced his retirement from the game. The Broncos put up impressive defensive gameplay against the Patriots and Brady. In the last minutes of the game, the Broncos were one defensive stop away from a Super Bowl appearance. They beat Brady and the Patriots, taking Manning to his 4th Super Bowl appearance.
