Every fan of the Arizona Cardinals will regard WR Larry Fitzgerald as one of the most prominent players for the team. In a stellar 17-season career, Fitzgerald went on to create records, becoming the second all-time in career receptions(1,432 yards), receiving yards(17,492), and sixth all-time in receiving touchdowns(121). Not only this, but the WR went on to win the 2016 Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2016, which is also a reflection of his philanthropic personality off the field for the community in Arizona, setting down the Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund and the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund, in honor of his late mother.
And now, the Cardinals WR legend can add another accomplishment, as he becomes the highest-earning wide receiver in NFL history, making $180,757,239 million from a 17-season career. But despite amassing such huge earnings, he is still set to lose some of its value to a special tax levied because of the dominance of this NBA legend.

Back in 1991, when Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls defeated Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers, this led to the implementation of the infamous Jock Tax in a domino effect, which is now levied on every athlete. According to the tax, visiting players will have to pay a certain amount to the state to earn in that particular state.

While eight teams in the NFL do not have state income taxes on their residents, it does not exempt the Arizona Cardinals. This means that Larry Fitzgerald will have to pay both state taxes and the Jock taxes. And this will certainly be a massive hit on his earnings. With the growing value of wide receivers because of teams becoming more pass-oriented, the salary cap for WRs is expected to rise in the future. And with stars like Odell Beckham Jr, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, and others still in the league, it is just a matter of longevity before another WR takes Fitzgerald’s place.
But currently, the 39-year-old will enjoy wearing this crown, as fans also celebrate this achievement with him.
Fans celebrate Fitzgerald’s success
Fans took to social media to celebrate this achievement of the Cardinals’ legend. There were some fans who were aware of the implementation of taxes on NFL athletes.
“*before taxes”
“Half of that went to the US government(taxes) and another good portion went to his agent. Just think, at least 100 million of that never made it into his bank account..ouch”
While others were in celebratory mode congratulating the former WR on his achievement
