The initial week of free agency was an indecisive time for cornerback Darius Slay. They gave the Philadelphia Eagles CB the liberty to research the free agency market to look into the possibility of a trade to a new team. The team further decided to release slay and make him a free agent for interested teams to pick up in the free agency window. But fate had other plans for the Eagles’ CB. Instead of parting ways with Slay, the franchise decided to retain the services of their serving CB. In a recent episode of his podcast, the Big Play Slay, the 32-year-old CB opened up about how the Baltimore Ravens had approached him to negotiate for a potential move from the Eagles. The Ravens are scouting the market after their own CB Marcus Peters became a free agent. They saw Slay as a perfect replacement for the position. But in the end, Eagles GM Howie Roseman persuaded him to stay. Even though the Ravens offered him a satisfactory contract, Darius Slay felt that he was an Eagle all the way.
He said, “One thing I almost didn’t know now, I was almost, almost this close, a Baltimore Ravens. I was this close, but you know I wanted to be an Eagle. I stayed an Eagle because I know me and Howie was gonna figure something out. But the Baltimore Ravens was the first team that called and they offered just what I wanted. And I said, hey the Eagles do that Imma stay an Eagle. Man, I almost was a Raven. I almost was a different bird. “

Darius Slay signed a three-year $42 million deal with the Eagles. He had spent the last three seasons with them and ultimately decided to stay with them. This has left the Ravens still hunting for a CB, while their situation with their star QB Lamar Jackson still remains unclear.
The curious case of the offseason and Jackson for the Ravens
Ever since the team decided to non-exclusive franchise tag their 2019 MVP QB, franchises have backed off from their pursuit of Lamar Jackson. While the stance of the Ravens with Jackson for the 2023 season remains unclear, the team has been losing its other defensive veteran pillars in the trade window as well. Recently, the Ravens released Calais Campbell, an important part of their defense, as he joined the Atlanta Falcons. While no teams seem to be showing an interest in acquiring the talented QB, it brings about the doubt of a possible collusion taking place.
