Looking at the ongoing developments, it seems the Cleveland Browns have made a costly mistake acquiring Deshaun Watson into the roster. Not only did he pour water over all the aspirations but also stranded the team. Now they are looking for other viable options in the market. While there are still uncertainties looming over the availability of Watson beyond the first six games, a recent poll suggests that trading Baker Mayfield was a mistake, and he was a better choice over the former Texans QB.

A recent Twitter poll was conducted by The Big Play Reflog Show co-host McNeil who asked the fans to make a choice and if there was an opportunity to redo everything and go back to January this year. Surprisingly, Mayfield secured the likes of 54% out of 12k votes over Watson’s 46%.

Although there isn’t a significant difference between the duo, Mayfield’s presence at this point would have helped the Browns cover up for the starting quarterback. However, they chose to make him a trade bait and send him to the Carolina Panthers. The last time when a similar kind of poll was conducted Mayfield, secured 68% over Watson’s 32%.

The ongoing disciplinary actions against Watson could have influenced this poll to some extent. Statistically speaking, Watson has come out better compared to Mayfield in recent years. Although Baker Mayfield showcased a phenomenal rookie season, he failed to execute similar actions in the later seasons of his career.

While Mayfield could only manage 26 touchdowns for eight interceptions.

Deshaun Watson will start the preseason game for Cleveland Browns

Even though Watson is banned from playing in the first six regular games, he will however appear in the first preseason match against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 12. The announcement came a day after the NFL Commissioner publicly spoke about Watson’s situation. He vowed that the NFL will seek an indefinite suspension for the Browns QB that could last for an entire year.

“We’ve seen the evidence,” Goodell said. “[Disciplinary officer] was very clear about the evidence, should we enforce the evidence. Those are things that we always felt were important for us to address in a way that’s responsible,” he added.

While there is a back and forth regarding the final verdict, per reports, the Browns are willing to go after Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo. However, he is carrying a burden of $27 million entering the 2022 season. So the team acquiring him will have to bear those expenses.
