After his trade to the Carolina Panthers, Baker Mayfield must be at peace now. Earlier, he expressed his disappointment with the Cleveland Browns for signing Deshaun Watson. Even though he was available as a QB, it became frustrating for Mayfield to see someone else take his spot. After his trade to the Panthers, his teammates might be annoyed, not surprised at best.
The final hurdle in his trade was his salary negotiation hanging by a thread. However, the Browns agreed to pay $10.5 million of his salary while the Panthers are paying $5 million. In addition, Baker decided to take a $3 million salary cut to facilitate the negotiation. Moreover, his teammate, Nick Chubb, issued a cryptic statement.

The Browns’ RB Chubb’s statement was nothing but a blank comment. Understandably, the trade might disappoint his teammates. But Mayfield was desperate for the trade since he wanted an out. He is coming off a tough season with the Browns on the back of an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.
Mayfield did well for the Browns in the opportunities he got with the club. He supported his RB Nick Chubb in getting Browns its first playoff qualification since 2002. In addition, he helped Cleveland get an AFC wild-card win over the Steelers. Therefore, showcasing his strengths as a starting QB. The Panthers are clearly winning from the trade and so is Baker Mayfield.

It is no longer a hidden story that the 27-year-old QB was upset over Watson joining the Browns. However, the Browns and Mayfield felt that moving on was the best option. Further owners of the Browns, Dee and Jimmy Haslam, stated, “We want to thank Baker for all his contributions to the Cleveland Browns. From the moment he was drafted, he gave his all for this organization and this city.”

Baker Mayfield is unlikely to start as a QB for the Panthers this season. Considering the OTAs and minicamp are over, Mayfield might have to put in a lot of extra hard work to make his way into the starting team. But there is no doubt that the Panthers will the athlete an opportunity to redeem himself.
