It’s a problem for the Steelers’ executive leadership; it’s not a judgment they could make carelessly, with every option possessing its own advantages and drawbacks.
Mayfield is indeed a part of the Cleveland Browns, after all. This isn’t expected to continue for so much longer. Not when the Browns obtained Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans in a blockbuster transaction.
Will Steelers Bag in Baker Mayfield?
On a recent Cleveland.com podcast, reporter Mary Kay Cabot speculates that Steelers can be interested in Mayfield. However, they have a condition that if Cleveland let him go as an unrestricted free agent.
She mentions, “The Steelers will pounce on Baker Mayfield if he becomes available. Like if they cut him and he’s just out there as a street-free agent, [the Steelers] would take him in a minute. The dilemma is that the Browns haven’t been able to retrieve a bidder for Mayfield. If they cannot swap him, they seem to have no choice but to terminate him promptly. What can the Pittsburgh front do?
The Steelers currently have a number of possibilities for their quarterback situation. They have the option to stick with Mitchell Trubisky. However, doubts about his game management have dogged him during his time in Chicago, even though the metrics show he’s a capable quarterback.

Mike Tomlin has by far the most dependable set of hands in the world in Mitchell. It is an excellent backup plan, considering the high expense of acquiring a play-caller this offseason.
Baker Mayfield is experiencing difficulty with the Cleveland Browns right now. Even though the quarterback is not particularly well-liked in Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, there is a phenomenally talented quarterback that may be accessible to the Steelers soon. Mayfield can be eligible at a bargain, unlike the transactions for Tyreek Hill, Russell Wilson, and Deshaun Watson.
