NFL franchise Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield recently did state his future with the franchise. It seems to have been released following trade rumors surrounding his future, and appears the writing for his departure is on the wall. The statement does appear like a farewell letter to the Cleveland fans as it talks about a potential deal for QB Deshaun Watson to rage on.

The statement was released on Tuesday night as the QB continues to recover from his injury despite having exercised the fifth-year rookie option in his contract with the Browns. Mayfield would have been earning $18,858,000 as the franchise did appear to be giving him an opportunity at a bounce-back year.

But it seems the situation has changed very quickly, and Mayfield looks to be pushing the envelope for his exit. In the statement, he states, “The past 4 years have been nothing short of truly life-changing since I heard my name called in the draft to go to Cleveland…We have made many memories and shared growing in this process through all the ups and downs.

The potential landing spot search for the QB might be underway after his latest actions and looking to prove his critics wrong. In 2021, the Browns QB played games with a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder throughout the season. He eventually did opt for surgery on his shoulder and is in a race against time to be fit for pre-season training camp.

Is the Baker Mayfield affair over for Cleveland?

The past year was one full of high expectations on Mayfield, who did end the 2020 NFL campaign with impressive performances. But in 2021, it was a season to forget. He did suffer a lot of injuries while only throwing f0r 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. The athlete only managed to complete 60.5 percent of his passes when the team counted on him to deliver results.

Among all the NFL QBs, Mayfield ranked 27th in completion percentage, and 22nd in touchdown passes. Despite having a torrid 2021 season, he is one of three quarterbacks to throw for 3,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first three seasons every year.

Being part of a coaching roulette in his first three NFL seasons might not have been ideal.

The deck has always been against Mayfield with the Browns, but he will be a wanted man during free agency. There still are some teams in the market looking for a QB, and Mayfield might be their primary choice in the upcoming weeks. It’s a shame for some Cleveland fans who would have been looking forward to seeing him back in 2022.
