Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was receiving even more backlash as he continued to explore his exit plans in the coming weeks. Mayfield’s value seems to be taking a hit with his current situation with the Browns organization. The discussions seem to have reached a point where questions were raised over Mayfield’s credentials as the No.1 overall pick.
During his guest appearance on the Rich Eisen show, NFL Insider Albert Breer questions whether Baker Mayfield was a first-round lottery pick talent.

While discussing his status in the NFL, he states, “I think teams view him as a starting QB, like he and I, and I think we all would’ve viewed him differently if he wasn’t the 1st overall pick. Like if he would have been a second or third-round pick in 2018, which looking back like is probably what he should have been…”

It is a damning statement about Mayfield and his abilities, but he has also delivered on separate instances of his NFL career in Cleveland. He believes if he was drafted in the later rounds, then he would have been seen as a success story by everyone. The Browns fans would have celebrated his minor accomplishments over the years. But they do not probably due to how he joined the organization in 2018.
What has Baker Mayfield achieved with the Browns franchise?
Mayfield was a breath of fresh air and optimism when he joined the team. In a Kevin Stefanski run offense, Mayfield struggled to adapt his game to the offense. He also failed to put up big numbers consistently. But under Stefanski, Mayfield also became the QB who ended their losing streak in the NFL playoffs.

The Browns QB was essential to their resurgence in recent seasons. He also ended their long-awaited droughts for wins in the regular season and postseason games. While fans craved for a superstar QB, he was only a good QB, who delivered results when it mattered.
But following a turbulent 2021 NFL campaign, the calls for his departure have grown further.

While he was playing through injury, Mayfield was not able to recapture the same form from the 2020 NFL season. The Browns fans will be craving a quick resolution ahead of playing under a new QB in Deshaun Watson.
