Cam Newton hasn’t played in the NFL since New England Patriots cut him from their squad. Seeing rookie Mac Jones step in to fill his shoes must’ve been disheartening, but not playing football at all left him even more upset. No teams were interested in signing the free agent, and he spent half the season at home.

Midway through the season, talks of Newton potentially returning to the NFL sparked. However, they quickly subsided when his vaccination status came out. But now, the quarterback is fully vaccinated and can play in the NFL. Fortunately for him, his former franchise expressed a lot of interest in signing him back.

The Panthers have had a mixed season so far. They got off to a flying start, winning their first three games, but then lost four in a row. They currently stand last in the NFC South, below Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. Sam Darnold killed it for three games, but his form dipped meteorically after that. Now, he’s on the injury reserve list and looks doubtful for the upcoming weeks.

By bringing Newton on board, the Panthers are reinforcing their side, and bringing back a fan favorite. Panthers fans are already hanging Newton jerseys from their balconies in Charlotte. If that isn’t love and adoration, I don’t know what is. The NFL just got a lot more interesting with Newton’s return, and we can’t wait to see how he fits into the new Carolina Panthers.
