Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints were stuck in a dilemma heading into Week 11. Multiple rib injuries to veteran quarterback Drew Brees meant his season was over in Week 10 itself.
Coach Payton had to choose between youngster Jameis Winston or the experienced Taysom Hill to fill in at quarterback.
That proved to be a smart gamble by the veteran NFL coach. Hill starred in the Saints’ 24-9 win over NFC South rivals Atlanta Falcons in Week 11.

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick made a recent appearance on Fox NFL’s First Things First. The 4-time Pro Bowler gave his 2 cents on the emergence of Taysom Hill as a potential successor to Drew Brees in New Orleans.
“Just looking at that drop in practice right there shows me that Taysom Hill, you know, is a guy that’s gonna be around in the National Football League for a long time at the quarterback position. Sean Payton can now look at life after football.
“Life after Drew Brees, excuse me. I’m sorry. He can start looking into the future and seeing life after Drew Brees man. Taysom Hill is the ultimate dual-threat….he’s hard to bring down and he played the show.
“You look at a guy like Taysom Hill, you can win football games with a quarterback like him with his stature with what he brings to the table. I’m gonna just say that. I’m gonna leave it down without everybody else,” Vick said on the show.
