As if this draft season couldn’t get more interesting, the Arizona Cardinals decided to release their wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. He has had a few bad seasons for the past 2-3 years, and he is going to be 31 before this season even begins. The Cardinals tried looking for a trade but they were unsuccessful for the $19.45 million cap Hopkins is insisting on keeping. There are at least 20 teams with a need for a wide receiver in the league, so Hopkins has been the center of attention for the past few days.

Hopkins’ huge salary cap has become a burden for the teams. His declining performance and age are not offering him any help either. In between all the uncertainty, Hopkins might have been presented with a possible opportunity. A new update from Jalen Hurts might be a hint about Hopkins’ next landing spot.

Out of all the teams that need a wide receiver like Hopkins, the Kansas City Chiefs are at the top of the line. Hopkins also claimed that he wants to play beside a good quarterback. But the Chiefs can’t afford Hopkins, and he won’t budge. There were several attempts for his renegotiations but he won’t take any less. The Cardinals decided to release him after they couldn’t find a team that was willing to spend such a huge amount on a 30-year-old wide receiver.

Hopkins hasn’t been able to find a home yet, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t coveted. He is just unwilling to settle for less. He revealed that he desires to be in a team that has great management, as he wasn’t treated well in his past teams. Hopkins also revealed his favorite quarterbacks that he would love to work with. Jalen Hurts was definitely on the list. And now the two have followed each other on Instagram.

Now that Jalen has started to follow Hopkins on Instagram, there are a good amount of rumors floating around. The Philadelphia Eagles could do well with a wide receiver like Hopkins, but his salary cap will be a big hit for the team. It is very clear at this point that if Hopkins wants to play with his choice of a quarterback, he will then need to negotiate his deal.

Does the wide receiver have any other option?

Hopkins will be a luxury item for his top 5 teams. But his top favorite QB pick, Josh Allen‘s team, is close to perfect for Hopkins. The Cardinals were already in talks of trade with the Buffalo Bills. Also, The New England Patriots could be a satisfactory choice for Hopkins. The team recently signed Mike Gesicki and JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike and Hopkins would be a great addition to the team.

In conclusion, Hopkins is still one of the best wide receivers in the league. Any team that is willing to qualify for the playoffs has their eye on him. He still has time during the OTA training to let the teams approach him with a deal that suits him the best. He can even do a free agency tour before jumping trains. As he is a free agent now, he has a lot of options at the table.
