The New York Giants recently failed to reach a long-term contract agreement with RB Saquon Barkley. The Giants signed the RB back in 2018 with the 2nd overall pick in the Draft. He impressed fans after becoming a human highlight reel with his explosive plays in his rookie season. Going on to earn the 2018 Offensive Rookie Player of the Year award. But cut to five years down the line, his situation with the Giants remains clouded after the recent failure to reach a long-term contract agreement.
And while the Saquon Barkley saga remains a mystery now, the Giants are drafting up a Plan B in case the situation goes South even further. And this plan includes them signing a new veteran RB, who could be soon replacing Barkley on the team.

With the way the current scenario is playing out in New York, the Giants felt the need to bring in an insurance if their stalemate with their star RB led to a potential holdout. And they did so by making an unexpected move, which involved signing RB James Robinson who has decent experience playing as a running back in the NFL.

Robinson played with the New York Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Earlier in March, he was signed by the New England Patriots. But the team decided to release him after the first day of mandatory minicamp in June. Despite going undrafted, he had notable success in his debut with the Jaguars in 2020. The 24-year-old rushed for 1,070 yards and had 10 touchdowns with the Jaguars.
While the team takes precautionary measures signing James Robinson, Saquon Barkley recently expressed his disappointment over the failed contract negotiations with the team.

What does the future look like for Saquon Barkley?
Barkley has been a key player in the offensive arsenal of the Giants for the past few years. And failing to reach a long-term agreement definitely deals a blow to his commitment to the team. During a recent podcast with Money Matters, he expressed his visible frustration over the situation and talked about how the team might value him if he doesn’t play at all. He even removed the Giants from his social media bio, as it now remains blank. The 26-year-old is expected to sit out training camp, as he has not even come forward to sign his franchise tag with the team.
Do you think Barkley will move on from New York and find solace in another team? Or will he and the Giants find common ground? Let us know in the comments below.
