After Matthew Stafford, the Rams faced yet another setback in the form of elite wide receiver Cooper Kupp exiting the field during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. The prospect, who happens to be the backbone of the offensive corps, was in intense pain after being hit. Head Coach Sean McVay gives a first-hand update on this issue.

In the current scenario, the LA Rams no longer look like reigning Super Bowl champions. Their slump continues to grow as they have been placed last in the NFC West with only three wins and six losses.

It was a nightmare for the backup, John Wolford, who replaced Matthew Stafford on Sunday. They lost 27-17 to the Cardinals, with Wolford completing 24 of 36 attempts for 212 yards and registering a touchdown against an interception.

His inconsistent performance was certainly a backdrop, and above all, lack of execution paved the way for back-to-back losses. The turning point of the game happened in the early fourth quarter when Cooper Kupp suffered an ankle injury trying to catch the pass from Wolford.

Rolling down, he grabbed his ankle hard and was seen in intense pain. The medics team examined him on the sidelines. Thereafter, the reigning Offensive Player of the Year was taken back to the locker room. Kupp accounted for 35.7% of the Rams’ catches in the offensive unit till Week 10. This shows how much dependent the Rams are on this weapon.

This record is the highest mark by any player in the league, and thus his absence would create a very big void inside the locker room. Even McVay acknowledged that his condition might be serious, and it didn’t look good at all. “It didn’t look good,” McVay said to the reporters when asked for an update. “It didn’t sound good, ” he added.

Even though the Rams had a disastrous season so far, Kupp’s presence helped them to pick up a fight on various occasions. Wolford understands his importance and spoke about his injury after the game.

“He’s arguably the best receiver in the league,” Wolford said about Kupp. “He’s a great leader for us, and we’ll definitely feel an impact to him not being out there, but guys got to step up, and we’ve got to rally if he’s not able to go. We don’t even know the extent of the injury yet, though,” he added.
