There’s no doubt that Tom Brady is qualified on the field. The QB has spent 23 years in the league. All that time has given him much insight into the sport he loves. Brady is also arguably the most accomplished player in the league. So it wouldn’t be surprising that the QB has a say in the game plans of his team. As an integral part of their strategy and a highly experienced player, this is almost a requirement. But, a recent report implied that Brady was doing more than that. The QB was not happy to hear about it. So, what did this report say?
Tom Brady is irked by a suggestive question
Ahead of Tampa Bay’s faceoff against the Cincinnati Bengals, Brady spoke to the press about the team’s preparation. TB12 was asked about a recent report written in the San Francisco Chronicle that reportedly suggested that he conducted separate meetings with players and makes changes to the Bucs’ game plan. While that may not be abnormal, the report went on to imply that Brady made these changes without involving head coach Todd Bowles or offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.
The reporter also suggested that the changes the article spoke about were only made known to the coaches when they came to the stadium on game day. Brady was asked whether the article was factual. TB12 looked annoyed by the question. He said, “No. I have no idea. I mean anybody could write anything and say whatever they want, so no” With a shake of his head he said, “I’m not going to respond to every…next question” The quarterback looked visibly annoyed by the question and was quick to move to direct his attention to the next.
Can the report have any semblance of truth with regard to Brady and his rogue changes?
As a seven-time Super Bowl champion, it shouldn’t be surprising for the veteran to have a say in how the Bucs’ strategy is crafted. But suggesting that the QB goes rogue and doesn’t involve the coaches is perhaps something no player wants to be accused of. But if this is the actual scenario, it’s a far cry from a united front. Brady’s reaction to the question suggests one of two things. Either the QB was appalled by the accusation or annoyed by the fact that word about his actions got out.

It wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe that there is some truth to what the report said. For instance, when the Bucs took on the Raiders, with seven minutes on the clock Brady was ready to attempt to get it done in a fourth-and-10 attempt but his coach had other plans. The QB and the offensive squad were called off the field instead. This could be a case of miscommunication within the team. But it would be a task to not look into every interaction to find instances that prove that TB12 and his coaches are not on the same page.
