Life is certainly unpredictable. There was a time back when Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith felt that he and his best buddy from college former WR Stedman Bailey would make it big in the NFL. But while Geno Smith continued his career, Bailey’s journey was cut short after a devastating drive-by shootout that almost claimed the lives of him and his family in 2015. And ever since, Bailey’s whole life changed. And Smith said, his best friend could still have been a great player had the incident not happened.

But now, the 32-year-old QB may have just the type of pass-catcher he wanted to play alongside him. And it seems that he is hopeful of this 2023 first-round WR pick making it big with him and the Seahawks in the nearby future.

As the offseason continues, teams are gearing up and engaging in full preparations and practice for the upcoming season of the NFL. With new rookie talents singing up with their respective teams, they will also be looking forward to building cohesion for their upcoming rookie season ahead. And it seems that Geno Smith is already building quite the chemistry with the Seahawks’ first-round WR draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

In a recent Twitter clip posted by the franchise, we see Smith practicing with Njigba and others at training. The clip shows Geno Smith making a pass to the 21-year-old WR, who expertly makes a run through the defense and catches the ball perfectly. This led to Smith praising the rookie, as Njigba’s performance visibly impressed him. Geno Smith further went on to say, “Hey that’s our first round pick right there. He’s pretty good.”

The rookie has a lot to prove

There are a lot of reasons why the Seahawks decided to draft Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round of the 2023 draft. He is a natural talent, who has excellent route running and ball-catching radius. Even Pete Carroll did not shy away from commenting on the 21-year-old. According to A to Z Sports, he said, “He’s really a natural athlete, gifted in his timing, in and out of breaks and things and his feel. He also has, which we saw this in the workout at school, he’s got great change of direction in him, and he’s got this marvelous ability to get in out of his turns.” Even KJ Wright believed that Njigba is going to be “the guy” for the Seahawks in the coming years and establish himself as one of the greatest WR of the franchise.
