According to Love, the hardest time came when Rodgers re-signed his contract last year, as it left Love wondering about his own future. He reflected on the situation and decided to focus on performing well whenever he got the opportunity.
“I’ll admit, I think the hardest time was when he re-signed the contract last year,” Love commented on Rodgers’ three-year, $150 million contract with Packers.
Love said, it was uncertain, but he keep focused on growth and seizing opportunities to excel. “It was kinda like, ‘OK, well, where do we go from here? What do I do?’ And I think I sat back, thought to myself and just came back with the approach, like, ‘Let’s just go ball out any opportunity I get.”
He added. “I’m gonna get preseason and who knows what happens after that, so just grow and try and become the best version of myself, and I can’t really control what happens after that, so let it play out.”
Love also mentioned that the wait for his chance to play felt like a long time, particularly during his first year as a rookie in the league. However, he felt that the next two years went by faster. Despite being drafted by the Packers at No. 26 in 2020, Love didn’t play right away due to COVID-19.
Learning from Rodgers as backup
Love’s second year: one start, a loss without Rodgers. Last season, limited action in a late-season defeat. Jordan Love had three years as Aaron Rodgers’ back up, learning from him. Now Love is the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback, while Rodgers moved to the New York Jets. They remain grateful to each other.

“We talked after the trade,” Love said of Rodgers. “Kind of just, ‘Wish you the best going forward.’ He wished me the best and [is] always there for me if I need anything if I have any questions or anything.” Love acknowledged that he had learned a lot from Rodgers and expressed gratitude for the time spent together. “I’m always just grateful to be around him and for the time I had with him, to be able to learn and be behind him. It’s very grateful for me.”
The Packers had Aaron for 18 years (2005-2022) before bidding him farewell. Meanwhile, they traded up to select Jordan with the 26th pick in the 2020 draft. Jordan played in only 6 games in 2021 and 4 games in 2022.
