Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs took an expected win over the Denver Broncos. But the victory did not come as easily as the NFL world anticipated. The Broncos showed more visible progress on the offensive front but could not come close enough to a victory. The Chiefs beat the Broncos 34-28.

Travis Kelce was once again very instrumental in the Chiefs’ victory. The tight end has successfully extended his record of 1000 receiving yards for seven consecutive years. Mahomes, who has been shining brightly all season, was a little dim against the Broncos. Despite managing to pull off a win, the quarterback made some questionable decisions that are generally unlike what he would do. So, what happened to Mahomes’ usual brilliance?
Patrick Mahomes is appreciative of the horde at his back
The Chiefs QB was picked off three times. While Mahomes managed to seal the deal, errant throws and the accumulation of small mistakes won’t go down well during the playoffs. The Chiefs’ game against the Broncos proved that Patrick Mahomes loves a good challenge. A no-look toss to Jerick McKinnon had fans on the edge of their seats. Post their victory, Mahomes was asked about what he relished about this particular challenge. Instead of going straight to analyzing his opponents, the QB addressed the fans. There’s no doubt that he is a fan-favorite. Regardless of the team they support, the NFL world has unofficially crowned him the MVP of the season.
And Mahomes knows the importance of having an electrifying ambiance and the crowd behind his back. He said, “Yeah, I mean first off I think it’s really cool, the stadiums that we get to go to and the fan bases. I mean, if you look at our division, I mean, the stadiums and the fan bases are top-notch.”
The NFL world can be brutal, especially online, but the importance of having a packed house to cheer you on is an essential part of the sport. “I did just enough today against a really good defense,” he added. Mahomes is backed by a horde of die-hard fans. But, despite his brilliance, this season, the errors that seem insignificant now may count for more than anticipated in the playoffs. So what does Mahomes have to do to potentially keep the ire of the fans away from him?
Mahomes and the chiefs cannot take their good run for granted
The Kansas City Chiefs cannot make Mahomes the sole bearer of all responsibility. Mahomes has been the primary instrument in their orchestration of success, but that should not be taken for granted. The Chiefs’ defense, for one, needs to step their game up. Denver has one of the league’s worst offenses this season. The fact that they were able to get away with scoring 28 points says a lot about where Kansas might need to improve.
