The New York Jets have finally been able to close a deal with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers. After over a month-long negotiation, both franchises have been able to reach a common ground for the negotiation clauses to be finalized in the long-going A-Rod saga. Now with Rodgers gearing up to finally end the woes of the Jets at their QB position, maybe the Jets will now eye for a Super Bowl contention-worthy season in 2023. Amidst the highly anticipated trade of Rodgers, Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce opened up about him being a part of the Jets roster as well. Kelce, a Jets? It is hard to imagine the Chiefs superstar as a part of any other team apart from the Chiefs now.

But in a recent interview, the Chiefs TE talked about how the Jets were one of the favorites in the race to acquire him during the 2013 draft.

Imagine a scenario where the Chiefs are playing without arguably one of their best TEs of all time. Yeah, it is hard to do that, given the accolades Travis Kelce has built up during his time at the Chiefs Kingdom. It is also a very well-established argument if the Chiefs would have ever made it to the Super Bowl if they did not have Kelce in their roster apart from their star QB Patrick Mahomes. Talking about the possible scenario, the TE recently stated in an interview on the Dan Patrick Show how things could have played out very differently in the 2013 draft.

Travis Kelce said, “Most of the talk was I was going to be somewhere in the late second, mid third round. I guess there were really two teams that my agent was talking to that had real interest in me. One of them being the Jets. And that’s really the only story I remember hearing from my agent that was like it could be possible.”

But it seemed like fate had other plans in mind. The Jets went on to draft Geno Smith as a 39th overall pick, which led to Kelce being picked up by the Chiefs at the 69th overall place. And the rest that followed is history.

Kelce and his glorious journey with the Chiefs

Since joining the Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce has become an inseparable and important piece of their roster. Partnering up with QB Patrick Mahomes, the duo have gone on to win two Super Bowl titles together. Apart from this, Kelce has almost over twice as many receiving yards (9,665)on his own than all the Jets TEs combined (4,210). He has also enjoyed success off the field as well, as he recently also hosted the renowned SNL show. With the kind of performance he puts up for the Chiefs every year, it is undoubtedly hard to imagine if Kelce would have enjoyed the same kind of success he does at the moment had he signed for any other team.
