With playoffs season underway, all the teams who did not qualify are preparing for the next season. One of the teams making some big moves is the Denver Broncos with their coaching staff.
After firing Nathaniel Hackett, the Broncos are in the market for a new coach. Previously, speculation had led to people believing that the Broncos might be pursuing veteran coach, Sean Payton.
While Payton is not currently coaching in the NFL, he is still under contract with the New Orleans Saints. However, it seems as though the Broncos are trying to acquire him to take on the head coach position in Denver, and they seem to be pulling out all stops.

It seems that Payton committed a violation and went on to timidly admit it as well. Furthermore, after his violation was revealed fans seem to have a lot to say about it.
Fans disputed Peyton’s actions
The issue with Peyton’s violation is by no means a small one. The coach was not supposed to interact with another team’s owner until 17th January 2023.
As per his contract, even if the Saints gave him permission, Peyton would still not be allowed to meet with any other team until the decided date.
However, the coach admitted on a show that one of the first NFL teams he interacted with was the Broncos. When this was made public on Twitter via Dov Kleiman, fans were quick to react to this violation of his contract. However, they had very conflicting opinions on it. One fan spoke about how this might not be a violation at all.
He can’t interview in person till January 17th. It didn’t say anything about speaking on the phone or via zoom. So I don’t see a problem here unless it comes out he can’t do that either

Furthermore, fans were quick to defend Payton’s actions with technicalities.
I’m thinking the technicality here is they’re not supposed to meet “in person”… because if they’re not supposed to talk (period), then why was this not mentioned yesterday, when word first got out that the team and Payton spoke?

There were also comments about how Payton might not actually care about the violation.
He don’t care. Lol. He clearly doesn’t wanna be there leaking this live on TV

Subsequently, there were fans who mentioned similar past events.
Kind of the same way Brady talked with the Dolphins and nothing happened to him

However, there were fans berating the Broncos for their actions.
Broncos are about to surrender another high draft pick and get nothing in return. You can’t make this up. Lol

Broncos gave away all their picks and are about to get sanctions. Rough start for the new owner

There was also a surprising comment about how both the team might have been toying with Payton.
They absolutely set him up, even if it was unintentional.
Let’s do a segment talking about hiring coaches and bring the guy on that currently is the most notable name on the market.

Finally, there were comments about the coach being a rule-breaker.
Wouldn’t be the first time he broke the rules

These happenings have made headway in confirming rumors of Payton’s intent of going ahead with the Broncos after Hackett was fired.
Sean Payton rumors
Before controversy over the violation arose, the Broncos’ head coach position was veiled in uncertainty. Even before Payton spoke to the Broncos, the team pursuing the veteran coach had been highly anticipated. However, with the developments that have taken place, it seems that Payton going to Broncos is not just a rumor.

However, the presumed violation is going to make Broncos acquiring Sean Payton a little more complicated that it would’ve been expected. It only remains to be seen if the NFL reprimands the coach and the Broncos or if Payton’s actions were totally acceptable.
