Earlier in an interview, the interim coach of the Panthers, Steve Wilks, told that PJ Walker suffered an ankle injury during the game against the Falcons and will miss the game against the Ravens. Hence, Baker Mayfield will replace him on the team.
NFL fans react to the Baker Mayfield news
After the Mayfield news came out, some of the fans reacted both negatively and positively. One fan posted a hilarious tweet:
All that head butting paid off 😅
— Steve Shields (@SteveSh66200549) November 14, 2022
Notably, Mayfield was seen head-butting his teammates at the end of the game against the Falcons to congratulate them for the win. After seeing that, fans made fun of him as well.
Meanwhile, many fans think the timing of PJ Walker’s injury was suspicious.
The “injury” timing is way too suspicious, he comes in for cincy, not even two weeks later he’s a starter now, and elaborate please how did he “tough it out” PJ, and why did you further risk injury by letting him play? Tired of this lifetime drama of QBS enough is enough 🤮

Another fan wants Mayfield out of the team.
As if we weren’t gonna lose bad enough already. Baker sucks get him out of Charlotte!!!
— JJones (@JJones35290911) November 14, 2022
One particular fan thinks he will be auditioning again for the quarterback spot.
He’s back and it’s audition time!

One Twitter user pointed out his snap percentages.
Yup. I hope they look at the snap percentages…baker can’t play more than 70%

Meanwhile, one fan thinks Mayfield got this opportunity because Walker did not play well in the last two games.
PJ played bad the last 2 games that’s the answer

On the other hand, many Panthers fans supported this move.
Even if PJ wasn't hurt, this is the correct move
— Niraj Patel (@nirajpatel94) November 14, 2022
Another fan is hopeful that Mayfield will cement his place in the side after this opportunity.
we've seen players perform better once rhule was thrown out into the trash, maybe Baker will elevate his play as well. Looked good against Cincy in the second half at least
— Baker+ (@_Streetz) November 14, 2022
One more fan felt this was the correct move and praised Mayfield for being a great teammate.
Correct move. Baker was a great teammate even though he lost his job due to injury. Came in against Cincy and played well. He’ll excel in his return and will play well the rest of the season. Glad he’s back in his rightful role.
— Bhalaajee Meenakshi-Sundaram (@Bhalaajee) November 14, 2022
Another fan showed support for Mayfield.
I hope he plays well I feel like the offense as a whole has opened up now that Rhule is gone and we aren't trying to play through one player. I'm a huge Baker fan( Oklahoma fan as well) he hasn't played well but I hope he turns it around

It is worth noting that Mayfield started the first five games of the season and his performance was not up to the mark. In those five games, he had 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Then, he got injured in the game against the Niners and backup quarterback PJ Walker replaced him.
Since then, Walker has been playing for the Panthers, and they won 2 out of their last five games. However, Walker’s performance has not been very convincing. During the game against the Bengals, the Panthers were terrible as the opposition was 35-0 up after the first half. As a result, both teams made some changes in the second half and Mayfield entered the field and threw two touchdown passes.
