The Chiefs’ quarterback, Patrick Mahomes highlighted the importance of getting paid up to their potential. The 2x MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion didn’t leave any room for second thoughts on the restructuring for the Chiefs management.
KMBC’s YouTube channel shared a video featuring Mahomes highlighting his views on the same. Mahomes shared, “You’ve got to keep the bar going; you got to keep it moving. I don’t want people to be negotiated against me, and so that’s the reason that you do something like I did this last week, just trying to keep the market moving in the right direction, training in the right direction, so not only me but other quarterbacks in other positions can get paid the money that they deserve.”
However, the quarterback realm is constantly evolving. With players like Burrow, and Hurts singing promising contracts, the QB landscape is the most evolving landscape. However, now eyes are on Mahomes for his promising contract.

Mahomes raking in promising money
With the Chiefs’ Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million contract extension in July 2020. Making it the most lucrative contract in NFL history, then. But with time Burrow’s contract of $275 million for five years with the Cincinnati Bengals, and Jalen Hurts’ contract of $255 million, a five-year extension with the Philadelphia Eagles took the spotlight. Considering Mahomes’ recording breaking 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns in the 2022 season which led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory, it was high time for Mahomes’ contract to be restructured.
The Hunt family showed their faith in Mahomes and restructured his contract for $210.6 million (guaranteed money) over four years, which spans till 2026. The new deal will pay Mahomes around $52 million every year. However, the previous deal of $450 million was suppressed to three years, and the Chiefs and Mahomes will revisit the contract in 2016. This mid-season contract restructuring has brought Mahomes to the forefront to sail his team successfully throughout the season and defend their title against 31 formidable NFL teams.
