“Ain’t No Dude Drawing that Up”: Famous for Fedoras, Scarves and “Tight” Thighed Pants, Cam Newton Gets a Reality Check for Calling Out NFL’s Cosmetic Reasons

Several players have had complaints about the NFL being discriminatory based on how they conduct their lives. Colin Kaepernick has raised this issue several times through matters of racial injustice. Furthermore, there have been other players who have spoken up about how their expression of their selves has been used to criticize them. Just recently, Cam Newton has spoken up about being discriminated against opportunities just due to his hair. Furthermore, his words have gotten a lot of responses and one of them was from Marcellus Wiley.

Wiley took to his podcast to speak about the ex-Carolina Panthers and his perils. He decided to voice out his opinion, which sounded close to a reality check for Newton. He even mentioned Newton’s style and the inspiration for the way he dresses.

Cosmetic blame on the NFL from Cam Newton

Wiley first addressed how Newton has been speaking about the fact that he has not been picked up by any team yet. Newton mentioned his hairstyle and his overall style is the reason. Furthermore, Wiley continued to speak about the QB’s style and mocked him for it.

Wiley quoted Newton’s inspiration for the style of clothing he has on. Furthermore, he said,

He also mentioned it would be very unlikely that Newton isn’t out there just due to the cosmetic reasons. Newton spoke about how there are different ways to showcase one’s identity, apart from Newton’s cosmetic ways of expression.

Wiley’s wise words for Newton

Wiley made it clear that there are different ways to express yourself. He reminded his audience and Newton that the way one keeps their hair or the way one dressed. Wiley spoke about how playing in the league is about more than just the way one plays. It is also about other aspects. He summed it up and said, “I hate when it’s not that damn simple like you actually got to go through more of the rigors and the issues and perception than in reality. Like what are you thinking of me before you even look at what I really am.” 

All in all, Wiley summed up the situation Netwon claims to be stuck in pretty well. He made it clear Newton might have to change his image if his hairstyle is the real reason. It remains to be seen what the factual reason is behind Newton being unemployed right now!
