In a rare showdown, Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff showed no mercy during their last encounter. The last time Mahomes and the Lions‘ current starting quarterback Goff faced each other was in 2018 when Goff was with the Rams. That game is inscribed in NFL history as one of the most thrilling encounters. The Rams went aggressive, defeating the Chiefs 54-51. It was the first time in pro football that both teams scored over 50 points.

Fast forward to 2023, and football fans are wondering if we’re in for another historic clash. The stage is set for a showdown in the 2023 Week 1 game on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The Chiefs will host the Lions at their stadium after a 20-year hiatus. Chiefs’ rival Jared Goff is ready to lead the Lions, thanks to a well-deserved contract extension offered by GM Brad Holmes.

Back in 2018, it was Goff who sealed the deal for his team with a 40-yard touchdown pass to tight end Gerald Everett, just 1 minute and 49 seconds before the game’s end. GM Brad Holmes reveals “good dialogue” between the Lions and Pro Bowl QB Jared Goff for a contract extension before the 2023 NFL opener, reports JPAFootball.

Goff’s 2022 performance, amassing 4438 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, sets high expectations for the upcoming season, an obvious outcome.

Reflecting on that 2018 epic, Goff remarked, “It was a crazy game.” Meanwhile, Mahomes, after the loss, emphasized, “You can’t make mistakes against great teams.” Despite the loss, Mahomes delivered a stellar performance with six touchdowns, while Goff contributed four touchdowns to his team’s victory.
