One of the most prominent headlines for this past week has surrounded the health of Damar Hamlin. The Buffalo Bills safety is now fortunately discharged from the hospital and is back at home with his family, continuing the road to recovery. However, on the other hand, another former NFL player finds himself in a similar adversity. Peyton Hillis, formerly a New York Giants player, risked his life to save his kids from drowning in Pensacola, Florida. The father was successful in rescuing his kids, but has since been in the ICU himself.

Ever since the unfortunate incident from last week, Hillis has remained in critical condition. The doctors monitor his situation as he is admitted to the intensive care unit.

Doctors raise concern for Peyton Hillis

According to multiple reports coming out about the 36-year-old, the battle for his life is very much on. The doctors are concerned with a few issues with his kidneys and lungs. Hillis is reportedly still unconscious and has lung damage from the near-drowning incident. These incidents are also common causes of acute kidney injury.

On Thursday, Hillis’ uncle Greg reported on Facebook, “Just wanted to let everyone know in Razorback Nation that Peyton is doing better. He is still in intensive care and has some issues with his kidneys and lungs, but the doctors say he is doing better.”

However, on Sunday, a reporter close to the development revealed that the player is battling for his life and definitely needs as many prayers as he can get.

Fans offer their prayers

The fans who have been monitoring the situation are all very concerned for the retired player.

While some fans have really questioned the lack of attention that Hillis is getting from the media, as there has not been enough coverage of his recovery after the accident on the 5th of January.

In addition to the above-mentioned fans, this person also joined the cause to call out NFL, but he seems to be fed up with the league and the surrounding press.

The Denver Broncos drafted Hillis in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, where he spent his first two seasons. Following his move to the Cleveland Browns, the player recorded his most successful season with 1177 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011.

Hillis then moved to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 for one season before finally spending his two last seasons with the Giants prior to his retirement in 2015.
