Geno Smith’s career has been marked by both highs and lows. Drafted by the New York Jets in 2013, he replaced Mark Sanchez as the starting QB for two seasons following Sanchez’s shoulder injury. However, his time as a QB1 came to a halt in 2015. With lackluster performance for the 2015-2016 season, it was the onset of the conclusion of Smith’s era. From then on, his time as a starting QB ended for nearly a decade.
In 2017, he signed with the New York Giants and then with the Chargers in 2018. However, his struggles on the field continued and he spent time as a backup for both franchises. Despite this, a trade to the Seahawks in 2019 presented a new opportunity for Smith. While he didn’t have a significant role in his first three seasons, everything changed in 2021. Following Winson’s trade to the Broncos, Geno Smith won the starting quarterback competition and performed at an elite level.
