This edition of Sunday Night Football will see two divisional rivals go head to head. The Kansas City Chiefs will be visiting the Los Angeles Chargers. And while Patrick Mahomes and the offense have been flying this season, the team has suffered a major blow in the preparations for this game. Their newly acquired wide receiver, Juju Smith Schuster, is likely to miss the match-up on Sunday, leaving the position very thin in depth.

Following a nasty collision with a rival defensive player, they took the WR off of the field. With a helmet-to-helmet collision, the team did want to risk the player developing a serious concussion. The medical team helped him get up, and leave the field. According to head coach Andy Reid in his latest press conference, the player is yet to clear the concussion protocol. The wideout was absent from the Thursday practice as well. And now many outlets are claiming that, in spite of no confirmations, the 25-year-old is likely to miss the action on Week 10 of the NFL.

In addition to Smith-Schuster, other top wide receivers are out as well. Marquez Valdes Scantling and Mecole Hardman are also on the sidelines. This leaves the Chiefs without 3 of their top receivers. After Travis Kelce, Schuster was their second-best receiver, with Valdes-Scantling and Hardman following him.

Patrick Mahomes will not have all his targets

The 27-year-old QB is currently leading the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns. After losing Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, earlier this year there was a skeptical view over the Chiefs’ offense. But the chemistry of Mahomes and Kelce shut down any doubts about their ability. Kelce has 740 receiving yards, which is the 7th highest in the league. And he also has 8 touchdowns to pair with the heavy yardage.

However, their heroics were equally matched by the explosiveness of Juju Smith-Schuster. The former 2nd round pick has impressed the viewers so far with his dependable performances. In 9 games, the WR has 615 yards with 2 TDs. Completing 71.9% of his attempted catches, which is a strong leap from his previous season’s 53.6%. The player has shown a lot of potentials already and to lose him will be a huge blow to the offense.

Mahomes will still have the services of new addition Kadarius Toney, who was just traded to the team from the Giants. The former 20th overall pick from the 2021 NFL draft will have to step up his game to bail out his team, who are extremely thin at the position right now.
