Some people get terrified of getting a call from their boss. Even when the call is to inform them that they have achieved something incredible. That is exactly what happened with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin. The 26-year-old cleared a major hurdle at the start of this week and got a call from owner Jerry Jones. And he revealed that he felt the absolute worst when he saw the call.
Turpin went undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft and had some stints here and there before landing in Dallas in the 2022 off-season.

For a player who did not have a smooth ride to the league, getting a call from the team owner can be terrifying. When Jerry Jones called KaVontae Turpin out of the blue, the WR/kick returner felt the absolute worst. “Most people don’t get calls from the owner. The first thing that came to my mind was I got cut,” Turpin told the Dallas Morning News.
But his fear soon turned into jubilation when Jones told him that he had got a nod for the Pro Bowl this season. And the Receiver couldn’t control his tears.“I was tearing up. They were coming down, but he probably couldn’t tell in my voice because I was still trying to be professional with it. That was basically my first time talking to him on the phone, so I didn’t know what to expect from him. It’s Jerry Jones.”

So, from going undrafted in 2017 to becoming a Pro Bowler in his first NFL season in 2022, Turpin has come a long way. Jones would be happy to see the Cowboys having a terrific season. And of course, as many as seven Pro Bowlers from a single team is just the bonus icing on the cake.

Jerry Jones’ team is second on the NFC East divisional table. Ahead of them are the dominant Philadelphia Eagles who are 13-1 overall at this point. Jones would hope that his boys can cap off a great regular season run with an even better postseason run. And while they are at it, they may even clinch the Super Bowl.
