Damar Hamlin went from being the center of the NFL world’s prayers to becoming the recipient of heavy criticism. Weeks after the incident that left the league in shambles, the safety is on the road to recovery. However, it seems he is in the hot waters again with his latest stint.

After suffering a cardiac arrest on the field, Hamlin came back from the brink of death and overcame the odds. In those few weeks, fans were on their knees, hoping for a miracle. But now, Hamlin seems to have incurred the ire of the NFL world.

The 24-year-old Bills safety put a smile on fans’ faces when they witnessed his presence at the Super Bowl game. However, this wasn’t his first appearance at a game after the incident. Followed by the joyous welcome, Hamlin’s name quickly got dragged in the mud after fans made certain observations. Seated next to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, the safety wore a blue Takashi Murakami jacket. Called the ‘Travis Jesus,’ the back of the jacket had an imprint of a graphically modified crucifix.

Former Vikings RB Adrian Peterson took to Instagram and accused Hamlin of being blasphemous. According to him, the Bills’ safety’s outfit was religiously disrespectful. Part of his post’s caption read, “You should be thanking God son! This is Blasphemy!! We all fall short but cmon man! I find this disrespectful!!”

Later Peterson modified his caption, after claiming to have spoken with Hamlin. Here’s what fans had to say on the matter.

While there may not have been ill intent from the safety’s side, many religious fans were offended by his actions. Nevertheless, some individuals were the voices of reason amidst the chaos. Former Jaguars RB Fred Taylor commented on Peterson’s post, urging him to privately address the matter with Hamlin instead of publicly reprimanding him. From the difference in the tone of Peterson’s updated caption, Taylor’s advice seems to have worked.
