Last weekend, the Green Bay Packers labored to an uncharacteristic 24-16 win against the Carolina Panthers. A game which saw the Panthers shut out the rampant Packers offense in the 2nd half of the game. The Panthers managed to get the better of MVP-hopeful Aaron Rodgers and his wide receiver corps, especially Davante Adams, by putting double coverage on the 28-year-old.

Rodgers, who has been averaging close to 3 touchdowns a game this season too had a rare day off. Throwing for a season-low 143 yards, Rodgers managed to get only a single touchdown throughout the entirety of the game. Rodgers and the rest of the Packers later reflected on the game and cited it more as an anomaly where the offense failed to click.

Double coverage on Davante leaves Packers offense inept

Aaron Rodgers during a segment of former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee’s show talked about the tie against the Panthers and how it was different from other games they’ve played this season.

“It was strange, the short week and the defense we played was a different alignment than most teams you’re going to see in the league. A lot of dime personnel, a lot of 335 kind of sets of weird fronts and just really making it hard on your run game,” Rodgers said.

While double-teaming Davante helped the Panthers, they were unable to shut out Aaron Jones when he ran the ball.

“Their (Panthers) plan was to take Davante out. They didn’t single him out much of the game. We ran the ball really well and (Aaron) Jones had a big game. We just hit a low there in the third quarter and couldn’t quite get things back on,” Rodgers added.

Still all to play for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers

While the Packers couldn’t execute the plays to their liking, they did enough to seal the win. And Rodgers seems to conform to the age-old adage of ‘A win, is a win’.

“It was a good win for us. Any win at this point of the season is important. We got some help from the Jets and the Chiefs over the weekend. We still have a lot to play for over the next couple of weeks,” the Packers veteran QB said.
