The NFL season is just around the corner and the developments don’t seem to stop. The Jets and Aaron Rodgers seemed to have made developments of their own. Following the beginning of the preseason, teams are finally deciding on the starting eleven that could shape their future. The Jets are one of the teams who may have already settled on the man for their offensive lineup.
With the final preseason game around the corner for the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers could line up with a familiar face really soon. That lineup will come at the expense of a 2x Super Bowl champ, with little concern from the newly appointed QB in the Jets dressing room.

The Green Bay Packers have lost two of their first-team regulars in the 2023 offseason. After letting their legendary QB leave for the Jets at the end of April, they’d move on their 32-year-old WR a couple of weeks later. While the Packers fans will wonder what this means for their beloved franchise, Rodgers has already seen enough to pick favorites for the season ahead in offseason OTAs and preseason.

In a recent Twitter update by Zack Rosenblatt, he disclosed what the future lineup for the New York Jets could look like once the season officially starts. He stated, “I’m starting to get the feeling that Randall Cobb will play a bigger role in this offense than expected. He’s been getting more reps with Aaron Rodgers than Mecole Hardman recently.” This will be a surprise to many given that Hardman is coming off of a SB winning campaign.

Although much of this is still speculation, it isn’t too farfetched to become reality either. Cobb and Rodgers hold a working relationship from their time together at the Packers which could translate into a full-blown partnership at the Jets. But what does it mean for former Mahomes teammate?

Mecole Hardman would have expected a different situation for himself in his present career milestone. After bagging a $5 million contract back in 2019, he posted decent numbers as a WR with the Chiefs. But after just 9 appearances in 2022, he doesn’t have a lot of pulling power despite 2 SB wins. This seems to have translated into falling behind the 32yo Cobb who has found favors from his former teammate.
While both Cobb and Hardman hold a 1-year contract with the Jets, many would back the former Mahomes teammate to build on his experience in New York. But whether it comes to fruition is another story with hurdles and competition at the Jets limiting opportunities.

Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb have a year to prove their worth to the New York Jets to nab an extension. But it’ll be a lot harder for the former Chiefs WR with Aaron Rodgers seemingly picking favorites.
