The Green Bay Packers are all set to pay their Star Quarterback Aaron Rodgers after a long will-they-won’t-they scenario played out in the media. And even the announcement was made in parts. Reports suggested that he will sign a $200 million deal. But he refuted those reports. And now the contract has been actually signed.
If Aaron Rodgers wanted the fans to believe that he will be taking on a cap-friendly deal, it certainly did not happen. Even if he decided to move on after a year, the Packers will take a huge cap hit. Does the QB have some other trick up his sleeve we don’t know about?
Big Money Aaron Rodgers
If not, the deal comes across as Aaron Rodgers making the most of his powerful position as it currently stands. A pay-cut or even working at the same salary would’ve meant that the team can help build around him. But it seems the team will have to find a way to make it happen. And Rodgers would have to play up to the contract he has signed. Although, one can argue that this contract was paid for what he has done and not what he is about to do.
Aaron Rodgers' contract extension is set to earn him:
$42 million in 2022
$59.515 million in 2023
$49.3 million in 2024This gets him to the three-year, $150 million mark, and the first two years are fully guaranteed at signing. (via @RapSheet + @TomPelissero) https://t.co/FkyeGmCCCf

Maybe the cap trouble has already begun. Ace Wide Receiver and a regular target for Rodgers, Devante Adams has refused to play under the tag. TE Lazard will be a free agent so his future is unknown.
