The Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was given a contract extension for three more years with a deal worth $150 million. Subsequently, he lost his No 1 wide receiver, Davante Adams, in a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders, which foiled some of his plans. It is the first time the quarterback is opening up on the matter.

While the first round of the NFL draft was progressing, Rodgers was live in the Pat McAfee show. When asked about his reaction to the Adams trade, Rodgers said that he was actually “surprised” by the team trading him. Because he is expecting the elite receiver to stay with the Packers for a few more years.

“When I made my decision, I was still thinking he was going to come back. I was very honest with him about my plans and my future and where I saw my career going, as far as how many years I wanted to play. But I felt like he was going to be back.”

“Didn’t turn out that way, but I have so much love for ‘Tae and appreciate the time we spent together and wish him the best in Derek [Carr] in Vegas. But that’s a big hole to fill, for sure.” Rodgers said on the show. For the past 8 years, Adams was a lethal weapon for the Packers’ offense.

The conversation became so deep, that the fans were quite assured to speculate that having Adams on the roster might be the reason why Rodgers decided to stay with the Packers. While this loss would have been compensated, if the Packers could have drafted a significant WR. However, they were disappointed on that part as well.

Aaron Rodgers was denied a wide receiver in the first round of the draft

With star wide receivers Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling leaving the franchise, the strength of receivers in the team has already deteriorated. Once again, the Packers went against the speculations by drafting two defensive players in the first round of this year’s draft.

The team’s general manager, Brian Gutekunst, went after linebacker Quay Walker at No. 22 and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt at No. 28. Both the players are Georgia alumni with extreme potential. However, at this point, adding a wide receiver was critical for the franchise.

Moreover, the top 6 wide receivers in this year’s class were also drafted leaving the team with no choice. But, Gutekunst is still optimistic and vows to draft good receivers in the coming days.
