Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera was asked why he said the other NFC East teams are ahead of them, right now. Rivera replied, “quarterback.” He elaborated it by saying the NFL is a quarterback-driven league. The experienced coach added most of the successful teams have been able to build around a specific QB. The coach also revealed he has no regrets about their QB, Carson Wentz.

However, former Commanders QB Alex Smith had a different opinion. He shared it on Monday Night Countdown. “I had a really hard time watching that. When I heard it, ai couldn’t believe it. I’m not here to defend Carson Wentz … But this is a defensive HC that’s absolutely driving the bus over his quarterback,” the 38-year-old said. Meanwhile, the QB comment by the coach made the fans talk on Twitter. Many of them expressed their views about the Commanders’ show and the coach’s role in it.

A defensive HC driving the bus over his QB you say?? pic.twitter.com/RjE94qAzK7

This user had a humorous yet informative take.
It’s not out of context because he’s saying that Daniel Jones and Cooper Rush have separated themselves from Carson Wentz. Wentz already knows about Hurts..it’s why he’s not in Philly anymore. Coach threw him under a city bus that lowers!😂

The coach received more criticism from the fans.
did he trade for this QB. and fail to retain a pro bowl OG? didn't he oversee the draft they picked Saddiq Charles? Ron needs to take a seat.

A user spoke about the need for a new coach.
Giants got a whole new coach in staff is jones not in a new system ?? Does Daniel jones have better talent around him than Carson does ? No .

This fan felt it was excuse-making.
It's fair to point out Carson is in first year with new team AND new system. None of the other QBs in the division are in that situation. But, it also is a bit of excuse making and can be interpreted as throwing Carson under the bus. Also, there is a history between Ron and Alex.

Carson Wentz gets support from the coach
The 29-year-old is backed by his team coach, who said the former has done some good things in the league. But Rivera admitted his top QB struggled in two games. “There’s been a couple of games that he’s struggled, but you look at his numbers from yesterday, you look at the numbers he’s had throughout the year. There was a time he was very solid,” he added.
Meanwhile, the comments by the coach came against the backdrop of two losses to the NFC East opponents. The Commanders lost 24-8 to the Eagles. After that defeat, they also lost to the Cowboys 25-10. It made the NFL fans talk.
A user spoke about Weltz’s performance.
I'm sorry, Wentz looks like the same guy who got benched for hurts. Still staring down wrs still fumbling still dropping back too far in a shotgun which causes the pocket to immediately collapse. The guy is a nfl journeyman now that should be a high priced backup

Another fan said he is not making use of opportunities.
Yep. He has been given plenty of chances to prove he's an NFL starter quality player and he's just not cutting it.

Come on now, don’t complain about Rivera now. When he was dogging out Dwayne Haskins people loved him. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/jBroYI4Ug7

This fan said the coach has done this act before.
It's not the first time he's railroaded players/people. Remember back to the whole C0V1D/V@X situation. He laid into people about that.
— Josh Talley (@jmtalley) October 11, 2022
This user shared a big concern.
That O line is horrendous. Wentz has a man in his face or 2 steps away every hike. Maybe old school Ron isn’t working well for that team.
