NFL was extremely close to missing out on the legend that Tom Brady is, as the 7 time Super Bowl winner could have turned pro in another sport. The MLB was also interested in Brady in 1995, and the Montreal Expos had selected Brady in the 18th round of the MLB draft.

However, Brady decided to carry on with football, leading to a two-decade-long career and becoming the greatest QB who has ever played the game.

When the MLB came calling for Tom Brady

On 2nd June 1995, the Montreal Expos drafted Brady during the 18th round of the MLB draft. However, Brady did not continue with a pro baseball career, which turned out to be an excellent decision because the Montreal Expos doesn’t even exist anymore while Brady has been playing in the NFL for more than 20 years now.

However, people associated with the MLB think that Brady would have been a fine player had played baseball. Scout John Hughes mentioned, “I think he would have been a pro. He had all the intangibles. He could throw, left-handed power.”

Hughes continues to believe in Brady’s innate baseball skills. “There is no reason to think this guy couldn’t have been a big-league catcher.”

Brady celebrated his MLB selection in a unique way

To mark the 21st anniversary of his MLB selection, Brady shared a photoshopped baseball card with his photo on Facebook. It probably served as a tribute to the sport that he was very good at but never joined.

Brady himself admitted that in high school years, “Baseball was kinda what I did.” He was a very talented catcher, and his school coach thought baseball was where he was headed.

However, he got drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2000 NFL Draft. After finishing his college football career at the University of Michigan, he makes a stellar career in the NFL with record-making achievements.
