The ace WR played with the Dallas Cowboys for three seasons from 2006 to 2008. During this time, he became their prime offensive asset and had an exceptional regular season record. However, Jerry Jones snubbed him from the team; it came as an unexpected move.

In late 2006, a bizarre event led to Owns paying a fortune. He had to pay a huge fine worth $35,000 for spitting on an opponent, DeAngelo Hall, during the Falcons v/s Cowboys game. Owens also filed an appeal against the fine, but he couldn’t avoid it. The 6x Pro-Bowler avoided a suspension, which was definitely on the cards. However, there is more to the story.

The Hall of Famer had no idea that Jerry Jones would ring up his phone one fine day. Consequently, both started chatting about resolving issues within the team and its performance. Previously, he also signed an extension with the Cowboys. Hence, everything looked merry. Little did he know what was about to hit him.

T.O. recalls that Jerry Jones and his son had come to town and wanted to speak with him, per his agent. Therefore, his agent and Owens went to the hotel and met the team owner and his son. Owens said, “So we just started talking, and I could tell that Jerry, you know, had a couple of them. I could just tell. But I didn’t think much of it.”
