San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was not gonna let anyone continue to spread fake news about his teammate and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Lance will be taking over the starting QB role from veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo and will bank on Samuel staying with the team. He made his first public comments online about the current contract stand-off between Samuel and the Niners organization.

Lance took to Twitter and was responding to the Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson’s draft-day tweet about Samuel. The Niners QB shut down Jefferson and his claims of Samuel joining the New York Jets, simply stating, “Stop it Tony.”
While the rumors linking Samuel with the Jets had some truth, Lance seems unwilling to entertain these reports.

Several outlets indicate that the New York Jets were ready to offer the Niners a lucrative package to lure Samuel to play for them in 2022. But there were no developments during the first round of the NFL Draft, and Samuel might remain with the team. At the beginning of April, Samuel was demanding a trade from San Francisco and left him waiting for offers.
Is Trey Lance looking forward to playing with Deebo Samuel next season?
While the source of these reports remains unverified, Samuel’s tweets seem to hint the reports are untrue. He is a major presence for the Niners in their offense and will be a great fit for the start of the Trey Lance era. Looking at Samuel’s production last season, he will aid Lance’s smooth transition into the starting role.
Samuel was enjoying a special season in 2021 that earned him his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. He recorded 77 receptions for 1405 receiving yards and 6 TDs while also rushing for 365 yards and 8 TDs.
The wide back will be entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Niners organization will be looking forward to tying him down on a new deal.

The Niners fans will hope that the franchise doesn’t trade Samuel. After becoming one of their talismans in recent seasons, the fans will want him to stay. The 2022 NFL campaign will provide Lance and probably Samuel a chance to develop what could be a one-two punch.
