Veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will expect to be traded at some point, said head coach Kyle Shanahan. But the HC also mentioned he does not know when Garoppolo will be traded or which team he will go to.

Shanahan said Garoppolo’s trade was not a guarantee at present, but the 49ers would definitely look at it once the QB is completely healthy. This trade is an important matter to the Niners because the former starting quarterback is now playing second fiddle to rookie Trey Lance. Currently, Garoppolo is recovering from shoulder surgery, with his rehab continuing till the summer.

It has made it even more difficult for Shanahan to give a realistic timeframe for Garoppolo’s trade since he can’t throw till the time he completely recovers.

Shanahan said, “Nothing’s changed since that surgery. Where we were at before that, and then he got the surgery, so everything went on hold. I expect him at some time, most likely, to be traded, but who knows? That’s not a guarantee. It’s been exactly on hold when that happened. When he’s healthy, we’ll see what happens.”

Jimmy Garoppolo from the 49ers to where?

The 49ers could have moved Garoppolo towards the beginning of the year, but they instead kept him on the roster till now. It may be due to the surgery Garoppolo had. But one thing is for sure, the 49ers are looking to hand over control of their offense to rookie QB Trey Lance.

Garoppolo hasn’t generated sufficient interest from other NFL teams looking to trade. In fact, even after he recovers, the 49ers will have a hard time finding a team who will take on the veteran QB.

The Jimmy Garoppolo trade drama shows no sign of ending soon. The question that remains is how would this affect all the parties involved- Garoppolo himself, Lance, and the 49ers’ own performance in the 2022 season.
