Trey Lance will be the new young quarterback in San Francisco. The 49ers identified Lance as their future starting quarterback in the NFL Draft. They had traded up before the draft to move to the #3 pick.
And with that pick, selected Trey Lance as a bit of a surprise. Analysts had tipped other quarterbacks like Mac Jones and Justin Fields to be higher draft picks. But according to Pro-Bowl wide receiver George Kittle, Lance is looking good in their initial OTAs.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle spoke about his first interaction with Trey Lance. Kittle returned to participate in the second phase of the 49ers’ OTA right now.

He got to see Trey Lance play some quarterback during these sessions. Kittle was impressed with what he got to see. What stood out most for Kittle was the skill of Lance, who attempted a bold pass, and converted it into a touchdown during the session.

“I got back of the last week of phase two for the OTAs last week. And I got to be on a field with him, catching passes from him. He’s got a cannon. It’s just fun.
“I said it yesterday, he looks better than a rookie quarterback which is fun. On our first live day going against the defense on Monday hit a deep pass to my rookie tight end Josh Peterson.
“It’s not a throw that gets made a lot. And the fact that he did on his first rollout was pretty funny. And the fact he completed for a touchdown was pretty cool.”
Trey Lance ready to make his mark
Trey Lance clearly has the initial support of one of the biggest stars on the team right now. Kittle is one of the most important players on the 49ers right now.

And going into the new season, a lot of their hopes will be pinned on Kittle’s performance. Furthermore, Kittle depends greatly on the service provided to him by the current starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.
And as things stand, Garoppolo will be starting quarterback unless something changes.
