A few days ago, Damar Hamlin faced an unbearably disturbing incident. The free safety had suddenly collapsed on the field in a game against the Bengals. It was later revealed that the Buffalo Bills player had reportedly gone into cardiac arrest on the field. Hamlin had been rushed to the hospital. Since then he has remained in the intensive care unit. After about 48 hours of sedation, Hamlin woke up and asked the doctor a very unexpected question.

The nature of Hamlin’s question would make one believe that he is a true athlete. Needless to say, it won over a lot of hearts. Furthermore, after he asked the question, the doctors also had a very heartwarming response.

After a heart-stopping 48 hours, Hamlin was finally conscious. Incidentally, he had something to ask his doctors and he asked them through writing. Additionally, the first words of communication from Hamlin were words that affirmed the true competitor and athlete he is.

The free safety’s first question to the doctors was if the Bills won the game. After suffering such an ordeal, the young athlete only had the win in his mind. The doctors were touched and replied with, “‘Yes, you know, Damar, you won. You’ve won the game of life,” as per New York Post. Notably, Hamlin is not yet able to communicate through actual words. He was able to communicate his question through written words. Furthermore, the status of the game in itself had become somewhat of a controversy.

Status of the Bills vs. Bengals game

While a majority of the NFL world was focused on Hamlin’s health, there were a few who seemingly had the same thought as Hamlin did. There were questions regarding the status of the match itself. However, when these questions were raised, there was outrage from celebrities and a staunch demand to declare the game as canceled.

While there were requests for the game to be canceled, it seems that Hamlin himself wanted to eagerly know if the Bills had garnered a win or not. Results of the game aside, Hamlin showed the league some exemplary competitiveness that brought on a smile to everyone’s faces.
