The Green Bay Packers had only one hope to keep their season alive. That was to win their last five games of the season. While they ticked 4 of those boxes, the team stumbled on the last hurdle against a resurgent Detroit Lions. With the loss, Aaron Rodgers‘ season also came to an end. In this case, it might have even been the last game that the 39-year-old plays in the NFL. The back-to-back MVP has been considering hanging his boots.

After the end of the game, Rodgers refused to exchange his jersey with Jameson Williams. The QB made it clear that he wanted to hold on to that one. This incident fueled the fire of talks over the player’s retirement. But the 39-year-old has not given a definite answer as to whether he will be returning or not.
Steve Young gets what Aaron Rodgers is going through
Former San Francisco 49ers legend, Steve Young, joined Tom Brady on his podcast ‘Let’s Go!‘ with Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald. Roger Staubach rounded off the trio of the three legendary QBs sitting together. The trio shared their thoughts about Rodgers and speculation over his retirement. But no one had a stronger and more poignant opinion than Young. “You can tell that he’s seriously thinking about it,” the 3x Super Bowl champion added. “He’s been completely honest and open and vulnerable in the last few years. It’s amazing to hear him speak. I mean, people can love or hate it, but it’s open and I and I really appreciate that,” he added.

The 61-year-old got extremely candid about life after retirement. According to the Hall of Famer, nothing will ever fill the void left in your life after devoting so much time and energy to the sport. That is what makes the decision so tough.
“Aaron’s sitting on that spot looking over the Cliff going I don’t wanna fall down there I don’t wanna go there, and that’s to me, I just really viscerally feel him today what he’s what he’s through,” Young said.

A-Rod on the road ahead
While there were many questions thrown at the QB, they were all met with the same answer. It appears that Rodgers who just signed a 3-year contract extension with the Packers, might just step away from the sport. “I have a lot of pride in what I’ve accomplished in this league, but I’m also a realist and I understand where we are as a team,” Rodgers explained. “We’re a young team, and there could be some change with some of the older guys. It could be time to step away,” he added.
However, there are equal chances of a comeback as well. Rodgers stands to earn around $60 million this year if he does decide to play. Even after a horrible first half of the season, the QB showed signs of his former MVP self in the last few games this season. There is a lot of time left before the new season commences, hopefully Rodgers would have made up his mind by then.
