Tom Brady becomes an unrestricted free agent next season. While this opens up the options for the star quarterback, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are stuck in a tight spot. While Brady’s future at Tampa Bay might be uncertain, the Bucs will be left without a leader if they do not find a quarterback. Fortunately for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there might be someone else.

ESPN’s sports analyst, Bill Barnwell, had an idea for an unexpected trade that might give the Bucs a backup. Brady is not easily replaceable, but the Bucs might not have an option. However, this quarterback might be the next best thing for Tampa Bay.

The Bucs could very well lose Brady. With Brady’s unrestricted free agency from next year, the Bucs need to be ready with a second choice. An ESPN analyst went on to speak about the different choices that the Bucs had. He even mentioned who he thinks is the frontrunner for the Bucs, provided they trade well for him. The answer, per Bill Barnwell, is Derek Carr.

The Raiders QB is currently under a $32 million contract in Las Vegas. Therefore, if he truly is the Bucs’ frontrunner, they will have to trade for him. Moreover, because of the no-trade clause in his contract, the quarterback could move to Florida if he so desired. The analyst had some interesting thoughts about the potential trade and who else might be good enough for the Buccaneers.

If Brady does indeed leave, then there will be a gaping hole in the Buccaneers’ team. Per Heavy, the ESPN analyst said, “I suspect they’ll make a serious effort to bring back Brady, but they’ll be in the running for one of the other veterans in the market if he retires or heads elsewhere. This would be the perfect landing spot for Derek Carr, although a more realistic option might be Geno Smith or Jacoby Brissett.”

Furthermore, Branwell also spoke about how the Bucs have a very strong core foundation in both their offense and their defense. Therefore, he mentioned the need for a veteran quarterback.
