The NFL has had legendary athletes in history, and some are now running strong in the game. Among them is Tom Brady, who came out of retirement to give proper closure to his stories career. Many would consider TB12 among the reigning supreme and the GOATs. However, defensive behemoth and HOFer Lawrence Taylor has a diverse choice in choosing the great one in the league.

Lawrence Taylor sat down for a conversation with the New York Post’s Steve Derby. During the conversation, the 1986 NFL MVP revealed he would like to run down and sack Tom Brady in his prime years. He claimed that if he were in peak shape and could intimidate any passer. The defensive legend made a bold claim and kept Joe Montana over The Pharaoh.

Lawrence Taylor mentioned, “Do I think he can? Yeah. Absolutely. It’ll be easier with him, but yes, he can win without Brady. Simply because of football knowledge… They want to say he’s the greatest quarterback of all time — not in my era. No. He’s not better than Joe Montana. No. As far as being who’s the best in my era? I was the best.”

Joe Montana is a certified legend in the NFL. The ex-49ers QB has had four Super Bowl appearances and remains undefeated. On the other hand, Tom Brady has had ten appearances so far and won seven. Brady would retire as the GOAT, but Taylor’s claim to keep Joe Cool over TB12 would remain a hot debate.

When Brady was in his boyhood days, he idolized Joe Montana. The Pharaoh grew up in San Mateo, California, and often traveled to watch the 49ers’ home games.

After 22 seasons, multiple MVP titles, and seven Super Bowl wins, many would consider Tom Brady the great one. His statistics scream his excellence as a QB, and no one stands between his accolades. But TB12’s idol, Joe Montana, who was referred to as the GOAT before Brady, had some divisive thoughts.

However, after the QB’s seventh Super Bowl win, Joe Cool changed his mind. Brady has long occupied the apex of that mountain. He also believes what Brady accomplished in his time on the field places him at the top of the list. Montana had some concerns at first. But he has now acknowledged Tom Brady as the GOAT.
