The Detroit Lions had the second-worst record last season. It was a disappointing campaign for the team. It came after the Lions lost their long-term quarterback Matthew Stafford to the LA Rams. The spirits around their camp were high ahead of the next season, but one of their young players announced his retirement.
John Penisini, the 25-year-old defensive tackle, has decided to hang his cleats. It came as a surprising decision because Penisini was so young. He wasn’t a sure-shot starter on the Detroit Lions team, but he used to play on a rotational basis.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campell spoke after Penisini had announced his retirement. He said, “They’ve really thought it out and tried to at least look out and they’ve got a plan, they’re able to know they’re about to make a decision that they can walk away from and never look back on. So that’s part of it.”
John Penisini had played two seasons for the Lions. He had recorded 23 solo tackles, 26 assists, 1.0 sacks, and one fumble recovery. Even though it was an early end to his career, Penisini certainly lived his dream of playing in the NFL.
