Tony Romo has come under significant heat from his employer, CBS, for his unsatisfactory performance in the broadcasting box. And the network executives have taken it a step ahead with a planned intervention, according to reports from the New York Post.

The former Dallas Cowboys QB and NFL analyst has definitely lost some of the shine from three years ago when he joined the broadcasting world and made sensational headlines. However, Tony’s unprepared commentating during the CBS NFL broadcasts has the network worried sick.

CBS refused to call it an intervention

CBS Sports’ chairperson, Sean McManus, and CBS’ lead NFL game producer, Jim Rikhoff, made separate trips to Romo’s Dallas residence to have talks regarding his broadcasting performance slump. However, according to the network’s spokeswoman Jen Sabatelle, the meeting can hardly be called an intervention. And that the organization is in the practice of having frequent sit-downs with its on-air entities.

In spite of what the network statements claim, the meetings between Tony Romo and the CBS executives weren’t all dinners and chit-chat. It also involved going over past film to understand Romo’s inadequacy.

However, according to Andrew Marchand of the Post, CBS’ offseason meeting with their color commentator has not had the desired impact. And Tony Romo and Jim Nantz’s broadcasting quality has been plummeting, regardless.

Romo played with the Cowboys for 11 seasons before transitioning to his analyst and broadcasting duties. And his initial brilliance from the box during his early days gave him a record $180 million 10-year contract, the highest in the sportscasting world. And owing to his contract, CBS cannot give up on Romo easily.

Tony has also been recently involved in racism accusations. Recently during the Chiefs-Bengals AFC Championship game, he almost said the N-word on national television before stopping at the right time.

Tony Romo also spoke about his recent stagnation in flair and preparation. And he thinks it’s mandatory to fail in order to become better at his job.

Besides, he has a year to get back to his old form. This year’s Super Bowl is on Fox’s plate with Greg Olsen and Kevin Burkhardt. Tom Brady is scheduled to replace the former soon, now that he is retired. However, Super Bowl LVIII next year in Las Vegas is under CBS’ belt. And Romo has to show up in the box with his lost glory.
