Big speculations are on the rise as the Dallas Cowboys may be on the verge of cutting Amari Cooper. The athlete signed a new contract a few years back, but with an escape clause set by the franchise. Cooper, who was gained in a trade from the Raiders in 2018, has been a consistent part of the Dallas offense. However, his recent performance has been a big point of discussion for the franchise.

Since the Cowboys’ season concluded with a postseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the wideout’s fate in Dallas has been called into question. The Dallas franchise needs some cap space, and the wide receiver’s release looks like an option.
A wise decision by the Dallas Cowboys?
Recently, Emmanuel Acho questioned the Cowboys’ decision to release Cooper, during the show, Speak For Yourself. His co-host, Marcellus Wiley said that they are not making a mistake. The former Charger isn’t a fan of Cooper and believes that the WR isn’t the number one receiver in the game.
Marcellus Wiley said, “His receiving yards were 865. You’d think that’s great. That’s not number one. Jacob Myers had more. Remember, Jacob Myers is the one they were like, “Yeah, hit a bus here,” but after the catch, which you always talk about, hey not the quarterback throwing it to you, Cedric Wilson got him beat. I’m taking away everything you’re going to try and shoot at me. The point being, Amari Cooper, all this the numbers don’t support you in production. The numbers don’t support you financially, and worst-case worst of them all, you don’t support your case.”
Cooper’s departure creates an unusual gap in the Cowboys’ receiver corps. There is also the issue of several of the Cowboy’s offensive players including Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson becoming unrestricted free agents after the offseason.
Amari Cooper: A Cowboy no more?
The Receiver’s probable release will save the Cowboys $16 million in salary-cap space. This is crucial since they are currently $21 million over the salary cap. Earning the title of NFL’s third-worst cap space situation. The athlete finished 15 games with 865 yards on 68 receptions. He had 104 pass targets and 8 touchdowns.

As per Adam Schefter, when the Dallas Cowboys signed Amari Cooper to a five-year, $100 million contract in 2020, officials included an opt-out clause that would clock in 2022 if there’s no guaranteed money left in the deal. Dallas will try to trade Cooper. But if they cannot reach an agreement, they might release the veteran receiver.

The Cowboys may cut ties with Cooper intending to re-sign Michael Gallup, who is coming off an ACL tear. This would equip them with another prominent wide receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb. There might be a possibility that the franchise may sign a rookie wide receiver. The Cowboys fanbase will keep an eye on the draft as a big roster shake-up is possible.
