Born Breakker was a hair’s breadth away from winning his first WWE Intercontinental Championship. However, Monday turned out to be Sami Zayn’s day as the whole audience at Bank PLE witnessed Zyan prove himself. Despite the loss, Breakker managed to get another game with Zyan to redeem himself on August 3 in Summer Slam.

The WWE sensation is all in this time, not missing out on practice sessions or his motivation. For this, his source of inspiration is none other than college football. More particularly, the ‘best coach in the history of CFB’, is Nick Saban. Although Saban’s rivalry may have concluded after he resigned from Alabama, his cutthroat rivalry with Georgia along with his cherished relationship with Alabama with their head coach Kirby Smart is still regarded as one of the highest.

Hence, as Breakker is setting up to take on Sami Zayn on August 3 with the Intercontinental title on the line, he is sourcing his zeal to win from Nick Saban. “YOU are the Kirby Smart to my Nick Saban!” said Bron Breakker in an exclusive interview with WWE. While Breakker is gearing up for his revenge on Zayn, let’s look at how the cherished friendship between Saban and Kirby turned into a cutthroat rivalry.

Nick Saban and Kirby Smart’s love-hate relationship

Throughout the 8 years that Smart served at Alabama, from 2008 to 2015 as a defensive coach alongside Nick Saban as a head coach, the bond they shared was impeccable. The two together forged some of the best defenses in the country.

However, that soon changed when Smart took up the head coaching duties at Georgia. That ticked off a whole new war between Smart and Saban, thanks to the age-old rivalry that Alabama and Georgia shared. The two have since then clashed in several head-to-head matchups since they knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses from the years they’ve worked together.

However, now that Nick Saban has retired from his head coaching duties at Alabama, the rivalry between them has come to an end. Now, the responsibility is passed on to Kalen DeBoer, the new head coach at Alabama to dominate Georgia in their rivalry. Will DeBoer do enough justice to the rivalry that his predecessor Nick Saban has maintained so well? Only time will tell whether Kalen DeBoer will shine Alabama’s name as brightly as Nick Saban once did. What do you think about this? Share your thoughts in the comments.
