“I’m just gonna be me,” were the final words of Sherrone Moore as he commenced his legacy at Michigan. Having real-time experience as Michigan’s head coach during Jim Harbaugh’s suspension aided him in understanding the key factors in Michigan’s functionality.
Hence, it did not come easy on Moore when defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and Ben Herbert chose Harbaugh over him. While reports supporting Minter’s switch were several, Herbert was the least expected staff to shift. “It’s really untouchable, the things he’s done for the program, the things he’s done for the line of scrimmage on both sides for us,” Moore had said. Given his highly lucrative $5 million contract for five years with Michigan, poising him as one out of the two strength and conditioning coaches earning more than $1 million, hardly anyone expected him to leave. But Manuel and Moore were quick on their feet to announce the next coach as Herbert’s replacement.

Giving a steadfast reply to Harbaugh’s move in the coaches’ battle, Moore announced the first official staff replacement and retention announcement under him. UM has retained their director of football performance nutrition, Abigail O’Connor, and promoted Justin Tress to director of strength and conditioning in place of Ben Herbert.
“I am honored to represent the football program in this new role and appreciate Coach Sherrone Moore’s belief in my abilities and Coach Herbert’s endorsement,” said Tress. “It means a great deal to have both of these leaders showing faith in me and my abilities as a strength coach. I look forward to leading the strength and conditioning program with an exceptionally talented group of coaches.”
