As if declaring him a ‘false god’ was not enough, Jason Whitlock has now categorized Deion Sanders as a ‘Nepotism god’. No sports personality, let alone the SI elected ‘Sports Person of the Year: 2023’, is spared from criticism. But opinions are far, far away from grave accusations.

The ‘Fearless’ host does not sugarcoat his words on Coach Prime, even when it’s a serious divulgence that could potentially harm his career. Whitlock earned solid proof against Sanders when former Buffs player Maddox Kopp opened up about proceedings in the Colorado locker room on his show.

Deion Sanders accused of favoritism yet again

Maddox Kopp spent the 2021 season with Coach Prime and Co., which was enough time to realize how things work with him. Safe to say, his experience was not the best. As reported by Whitlock, “Maddox Kopp had a horrible experience because Deion came in and told them during spring practice last year that as a quarterback, your job…is to make sure Shedeur Sanders is the best quarterback he can be.”

As infuriating of a statement as it can be for any student-athlete, Kopp’s complaints did not stop there. “Your job isn’t to compete. Your job isn’t to prepare yourself,” said Coach Prime, as alleged by Whitlock. Deion Sanders chose to give the cold shoulder to the nepotism accusations, but this is much more than that.

While the whole ‘favoring his son’ thing is already as bad as it can get, it came with the added baggage of de-motivating the players by coercing them to enter the transfer portal. And as Whitlock asserted, “That’s not what 18, 19, 20, 21-year-old kids want to hear.” Looking at how unconcerned Coach Prime was when Buffs players committed as soon as the season ended, raises suspicions.

Deion Sanders and the revolution of the Buffs team

When Deion Sanders shifted to the Buffs with his boys from Jackson State a year ago, it was perhaps evident to some that he was about to bring a revolution to Colorado Boulder. While he did what he came for and gave a huge makeover to the team, the future of shiny five-star recruits like OT Jordan Seaton and the current Buffs players was hanging by a thread.

In a nutshell, Sanders apparently wanted to design his dream team, even if it meant putting a gun to the current players’ heads, who had to retire. Even Whitlock demands answers for this. “Because he wears gold chains and because you think he’s popular, he can mistreat young people.”
