Deion Sanders has a new tag! Courtesy? His pastor friend, E. Dewey Smith’s wife, Andrea, mockingly hurled the “cheater” jibe at the Buffs head coach. As captured by Well Of Media on July 7, the Sanders are on a yacht ride with their close friends and family. Smith and Deion have been close pals for 20 years now.

They always support each other. Being one of the biggest stans of Coach Prime, it was the same Smith who came up with the much-needed push for Deion ahead of the big weekend.

Before Deion took a dip in the jacuzzi fitted within his yacht, he got playfully branded as a “cheater.” Armed with a camera, as Deion Sanders Jr. ensured to capture every shot from the yacht, Bucky planned up and captured an impromptu interview with his father’s best buddy, Smith. But right after Smith started to share his thoughts about how he had a fun time with the Buffs head coach, “We beat up on Jennifer for real bad taboo duh,” his wife, Andrea, seated at a distance, dropped a bomb. She teasingly claimed, talking to Bucky, “They cheated, you know your dad. They cheated, pastor cheated. I mean go ahead, go ahead with his interview.” Very well, knowing that it was a joke, Smith now delved into some facts.

The pastor holds his two-decade friendship with Deion very close to his heart. Smith then hopped on a ride down memory lane: “I met him in 2002, he still was in the league. He was in DC at the time. We were at a Men’s Conference and we hit it off immediately man. Down through the years just established a relationship.” To date, the support game runs strong between the two.

Smith and Deion have a robust foundation of mutual support

Last month, Deion was too busy to catch even a breath. But Coach Prime always has time for Smith. When the Buffs HC was too preoccupied with hosting the visit for the five-star QB Julian “JuJu” Lewis, he spared some time to show his affection toward Smith on social media. On June 22, he created a heartwarming post sharing an old picture of both. For the caption, he wrote, “@edeweysmith My man of God.”

It did not take Smith much time to reciprocate his feelings. Within 30 minutes, the pastor reshared Deion’s tweet. Sharing a heart-to-heart connection, Smith was aware of how stressed the Buffs HC was and came up with an inspirational nudge. Smith wrote, “Let’s Go @DeionSanders!!!!! We’ve got another BIG weekend my friend!!!!”

The period between 2002 and 2024 has been one long ride for both Deion and Smith. As Sanders transitioned into something as big as the Buffs HC role, his pastor friend acted as a steady anchor during life’s storms and difficulties.
