Does the NFL do enough to support players' mental health after tragedies like Khyree Jackson's death?

A heavy blanket of grief is covering the entirety of the football community today ever since the heartbreaking news of Khyree Jackson’s death came to light. A talented youngster who emanated nothing but positivity, both on and off the field, soars to the stars today, and friends and loved ones are crying for the memory and the legacy he left behind.

Khyree Jackson was an outstanding talent who gave it his all to take his team to glory. He spent 2 seasons from 2021 to 2022 with the Alabama Crimson Tide before transferring to the Oregon Ducks in 2023, where he showcased immense potential as a cornerback who could make waves in the NFL. Alas! He met with a tragic accident today that took his life along with 2 other of his friends, marking the end of a career that could have very well been one of the greatest of all time. Today is a day of mourning and everyone is joining the likes of Terrion Arnold, who showed his tearful emotions while talking about his former teammate who is no more with us.

On 6th July, Terrion Arnold took to Instagram to share the deep remorse he’s been feeling over the heartbreaking demise of his friend, Khyree Jackson. The duo played together in the seasons of 2021 and 2022 but now with his tragic passing, the entire community of the Alabama team is coming together to express their condolences for the late CB.

Arnold shared a series of Instagram stories and in one of them he wrote, “You hurt me with this one brother 💔💔” and further posted a video of Jackson with the caption, “All you cared bout was yo brothers eating man You ain’t even get to play your first NFL snap slim.

Moreover, Arnold even posted an endearing video on X for his late teammate and friend and captioned it with a lengthy caption, “The journey it took for you to get to where you was at and you really accomplished your goals of making it to the NFL, you really looked out for me. A true brother and all you wanted to do was see me succeed and vice versa always love slim❤️.” Lastly, Arnold reposted the Vikings’ tribute since Jackson would’ve begun his NFL career this year if it weren’t for his devastating accident. Moreover, here’s the CB for the New England Patriots, Christian Gonzalez who paid his tribute to Khyree Jackson as well.

Christian Gonzalez’ last words for Khyree Jackson

Back in 2022, Gonzalez was the star player for the Oregon Ducks and then next year, Jackson came in from Alabama and wore his crown. Gonzalez went to the NFL to play for the New England Patriots while Jackson was looked on to with a wide array of hopes to fill out his shoes. At the time, Jackson was heard saying, “I’m definitely trying to be myself but also step into his role as being a lockdown corner. That’s definitely what I look forward to, but at the same time bringing my own swag to the team.”

While referencing to these words of his, Gonzalez took to Instagram to pay his respects and wrote, “You did exactly what you told me you was gon do. Get your rest.” Getting his rest is exactly what Jackson is going to be doing today as he finds his place among an eternity of goodness and kindness, a symbol of his own personality and the way he treated his friends and loved ones, all of whom will keep him in their minds for a long time yet to come.
